We offer a changing variety of classes designed to teach you more about quilting and whet your appetite for new projects. Classes are limited to 8 participants and fill up quickly, so register early!

Note: On Full-Day Classes, a break will be given. Bring your own sack lunch or go out!

Use your scraps and odds and ends to create this excellent bag to carry your quilting tools, or a great overnight bag. You will truly enjoy this experience, because there is no exact measuring or marking the blocks. It's crazy, just whack them off here or there!!!

 

Open Lab Quilting Workshop

This is an open-sew time when you can bring all your problems to a quilting instructor. She will help you solve problems and give you confidence so you can finish that never-ending project or start a new one.

Beginning Quilt Making

Fee: $40 plus required book

This 3 session class will take you step by step through the basics of the quilt making process. In the first session you will pick out the fabric for your creation and learn how to cut and measure accurately. Session two will concentrate on sewing—how to read and understand quilting terms, sew ¼” seams, pressing and more. The third session will focus on quilting and binding including selecting batting, sizing of backing for quilting, squaring up and figuring the amount of binding needed, negotiating the corners and finishing right down to the label.

 

 

 

 

Paper Piecing Paper Piecing Quilt Class

Learn the technique of paper piecing using a simple sailboat pattern. We will have the patterns available the day of the class as well as the instructions for the wall hanging. You can make any size you would like, and it does not have to be as colorful as our sample.

Machine Quilting

Your quilt top is pieced-so now what? Learn the basics of straight line, echo quilting, stippling and more. You will need a darning foot and walking foot for your sewing machine and know how to lower the feed dogs (be sure to bring your Owner's Manual with you to class). Practice techniques on a muslin 'quilt sandwich' and be amazed at what you can do. Machine tensions, marking, batting, basting and equipment will be discussed.

This quilt really has a "wow" factor but uses simple techniques. Using the Eleanor Burns flying geese ruler, you will make eight-pointed stars in three different sizes. Because the quilt is not set in straight or diagonal rows, the piecing is done using a partial seam assembly. Really, it's not hard, and well worth the effort! A great scrappy quilt done in batiks, 30's, or how about yellow and blues?

If you have ever been afraid of zippers, you will love this technique to make Zippers No Big Deal. Terry Atkinson has provided us this great technique to make a small purse or makeup bag. It is fun and EASY. Believe me, I was deathly afraid of zippers, and now, NO PROBLEM!
