Our History

We are often asked how QuiltEssentials came about. We think it's a wonderful story.

Chenille scarf

"Three Dreams and a Chenille Scarf"

Two friends, enjoying an after work cocktail, are in the midst of a conversation about quilting when the non-quilter friend expresses her desire to learn to quilt. Quilter friend says, "Come on over to my house and I'll get you started." Soon the non-quilter friend takes her quilter friend up on that offer and also takes a Beginning Quilting class. You can guess what happens next - she becomes addicted and passionate about quilting.

These two same friends, now both committed quilters, are again enjoying an after work social refreshment when one utters her dream of some day opening a quilt shop. The other friend exclaims, "Let's do it!"

Meanwhile another lovely "young" lady is pursuing her passion of quilting and dream of opening a quilt shop by writing a business plan to do just that in Oshkosh. She makes a chenille scarf for a friend as a Christmas gift, has dinner with the friend and presents her with the scarf. The gift recipient then wears that chenille scarf to a job interview the next day. The woman she was interviewing with comments on the scarf and is told that it was made by a friend who wants to open a quilt shop in Oshkosh.

The chenille scarf recipient calls her friend and excitedly reports the news that she has met a woman also interested in opening a quilt shop. The scarf maker calls that woman and arranges to meet her and her friend for lunch.

The three women meet for lunch in Oshkosh, hit it off immediately and the result is QuiltEssentials, Inc.
